Overview
Marshal Laboratories has indigenously developed a water-based zinc flake coating chemistry that delivers ultra-thin coatings with very high corrosion protection — typically more than 1000 hours of salt spray as per ASTM B117. The unique formulation combines micro zinc flakes with specially developed nano silicates, which extend the protection through galvanic current over the steel surface, and the coating is self-healing during application.
The coating forms a uniform, dense barrier that prevents corrosive media from reaching the base steel surface. Being water-based, the chemistry is easy to handle and highly stable on the shop floor. It offers wide surface-preparation options — shot blasting or phosphating — making it versatile to operate, and it is highly adherent to the base surface, preventing any oxygen trapping below the coating.
The coating is thermally resistant, maintaining its integrity after repeated heat-and-cool cycles — especially valuable for automotive fasteners. The chemistry can be applied by dip-spin or spray.
Zinc Flake Coating Process
Ultra-thin water-based coating built from micro zinc flakes and specially developed nano silicates. The zinc flakes protect the steel galvanically and the coating self-heals during application, while the dense, uniform barrier keeps corrosive media away from the base surface.
